WAHM: What’s With The Title Anyway??

WAHM: What's With The Title Anyway??

Who ever invented the term WAHM? Short for work-at-home-mom. Just like me.

For more than four years now, I am a WAHM. I still love what I do, don't get me wrong. However, you need a lot of effective time management skills to really make it work. Working at home is never easy, mind you. We too have house chores and mommy duties to attend to. On top of all that, you have writing and online duties to fulfill. Else, you can't keep your household, sort of.

There's just too much activities inside any household that would surely disrupt your work, if you don't take full control. This is when you need some kind of support system. First of all, you must have an uber-supportive spouse or partner that understands the kind of work that you do and considers it a real job as well.

You need somebody who shares the house chores and your mommy duties. If he or she is some kind of 'jerk' who looks down on the work-at-home workforce, then he or she is someone you don't need in a work-at-home environment. Second, your kid (or kids) needs to understand that when mommy is in front of her computer, she is working. Also, you gotta have a peaceful household and a home office that really is just your turf.

At the moment I have all of the above. Lucky me, right? And I've got only one kid who's in 2nd grade and is in school most of his waking hours. Still, there are days I just lose my writing/blogging groove. Distractions can range from 'mommy i don't like what's for dinner' to 'honey you really need to take a break now' to 'mommy my teacher wanna talk to you'..the list just goes on and on.

But right now is a better time. The family is asleep, except me. Get the picture?
