Rising Home Based Businesses Lead the Way for Technology Adoption

Nearly 2 million home based businesses will be added to the home office market segment between 2011 and 2015, states a recent study of the International Data Corp (IDC). Additionally it concludes that home based businesses will lead the way for technology adoption.

Through the study, 'U.S. Home Office 2011-2015 Forecast: Recovery Drives Interest in IT as Home Office Households Adjust to New Economic Realities,' IDC notes that PCs will be essential to home based businesses and over time portable-forms will dominate sales.

Justin Jaffe, senior research analyst for small and medium-sized business and home office research at IDC, affirms that home based businesses will invest more on advanced technology than households in general. As per the study, home based businesses will spend in various categories from notebook computers and wireless networks to mobile phones in addition to developing a preference for MFPs and their multiplies capabilities.

The study estimates that by the end of 2015, three-quarters of networked home based businesses will be wireless-enabled and smartphones will become indispensable.
